Phoenix palm come from the Canary Island which lie off the Atlantic Coast of North Africa. These handsome evergreen trees is a sub-tropical species with feather fronds, they are tall (12 to 18 mts ) with stout trunk, and have fronds spreading up to 6 to 12 m slow growing reaching 3½ m in 15 years. They have green pinnate feather-like fronds, arching at top, 6 m long lived, toothed petioles. The flowers are dioecious on brush-like stalks to 2 m long bearing small off-white flowers. The fruit on female trees are round yellow-orange fruit about 12 mm across and are not edible.
