General information: New Zealand has around 164 different fern species may of which are endemic.
Cyathea - Genus contains about 650 species of tree ferns from around the world. 7 Cyathea tree fern species are from New Zealand. 5 of these are New Zealand endemic species - found nowhere else.
Dicksonia - Genus contains 25 fern species from the southern hemisphere. Three tree ferns are endemic to New Zealand - found nowhere else - and are commonly cultivated fern plants.
